Samba drumming comes from the carnivals of South America. It is outdoor drumming and can be painfully loud in an enclosed space unless smaller quieter instruments are chosen.
In a DrumCrazy kit we use shakers, agogo and tambourim type percussion instruments used in samba bands alongside our bass drums and hand drums from Africa and the middle east.
Snare drums and repinique are both played with sticks and take considerable experience to play well. For this reason we do not use them within the drumcircle.
If you are working on Samba Music as part of the National Curriculum a DrumCrazy session will get the whole group playing together and developing the drumming and ensemble skills they need to tackle some specific Samba rhythms.
